There’s been a record increase of more than 20% in people in Clare dying without a will.
New figures from the Courts Service show the number of Grants of Administration Intestate, which are filed when a person dies without having appointed an executor to distribute their assets, has risen from 3,670 in 2023 to 4,451 last year.

Without a will in place, relatives can be left with the burden of paying off debts which can create legal difficulties.
President of the Clare Law Association Louise Merrigan says friction often develops within families in such situations.
