A public meeting is taking place amid calls to protect arts and community space within the planned redevelopment of The Cloister in Ennis.
Clare County Council last month submitted a Part 8 planning application for the THRIVE Project at 49 Abbey Street, which is designed to enhance the town’s tourism offering by creating a dedicated visitor experience based on Ennis Friary.
Under the revised plans, the development will include exhibition and orientation space, while continuing to provide multi-functional community and education facilities in the strategic town-centre location.
However, the Save The Cloister campaign group, which is hosting a public meeting at the Old Ground Hotel from 7.30pm tomorrow evening is urging the Council to ensure the project remains true to its original community-centred cultural purpose.
One of its coordinators, Kaye Maahs is concerned a unique opportunity to expand arts facilities in Ennis could be lost.
