Public Health Midwest Record ‘Sudden Increase’ In COVID Cases In The Region

Public Health Midwest say they’ve recorded a ‘sudden increase’ in COVID-19 cases in the region this week.

Officials are attributing the rise to what they describe as ‘widespread community transmission’.

Public health experts here say they’ve diagnosed 183 cases of COVID-19 in Clare in the past fortnight.

That’s along with 515 in Limerick and 126 in North Tipperary.

The 85 cases in the region on Thursday was the highest daily increase the Midwest has seen in two months.

Public Health Midwest believe a trend of widespread community transmission with what they say are ‘multi setting clusters’ is contributing to the rise.

They say many new cases have multiple close contacts, making it more difficult for them to manage and control infection levels.

Long-term residential care facilities, workplaces and sports teams are some of the places to have recorded outbreaks here in recent days.

Officials are encouraging people to be conscious of those not yet fully vaccinated by taking extra precautions where possible.
