More people than ever before have been turning to the Shannon branch of St Vincent De Paul for help with food bills.
An analysis of requests for help nationally from the society last year has revealed that food poverty is the most common issue affecting those seeking help.

A third of people approaching SVP are unable to feed their families, while the organisation spends between €11 and €12 million annually helping households with the cost of food.
