Family Retraces Final Journey Of Man Killed In West Clare Road Crash

A Portuguese man who lost his life in a road collision in west Clare earlier this month is being remembered as a carefree man who loved to travel and meet people.

Fernando Emanuel Gonçalves da Costa Carneiro Penetra was cycling on the N67 between Kilrush and Kilkee when he was involved in a fatal collision with a van at Baunmore on October 9th.

His family say he loved music and gardening, and had wanted to visit Ireland for some time to experience first-hand the beauty of the country’s landscapes and scenery.

Fernando’s sister Heide Carneiro travelled to Clare to retrace his steps before his death.

She’s been telling Clare FM’s Morning Focus the loss has had a profound impact on the family, but support from the west Clare community has been comforting.
