Overnight water restrictions will come into effect in parts of North Clare tonight.
Uisce Éireann says it’s introducing the measure as a result of the increased demand arising from the ongoing warm weather putting pressure on the treatment process.
From tonight at 10pm until 8am, targeted overnight restrictions will be implemented in the catchment regions of Ennistymon, Lahinch, Liscannor, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna, Fanore, Ballyvaughan, Kilfenora and Kilshanny.
The water utility says these will remain in place pending a further operational assessment on Monday, July 20th.
It says the measure is being taken to protect daytime supply for homes and businesses.
It’s understood it will continue to monitor water levels in Clare and adjust operations daily based on demand, usage and weather condition.
Uisce Éireann Operations Manager Darragh Conneely says “nighttime restrictions are being implemented to support treated reservoir recovery and maintain daytime supply”.
He says “conserving water will help protect resources and maintain supply for all”, while explaining “when there is an increase in temperatures, it leads to a rise in demand for water”.
He’s added “water is a hugely precious resource, and it is important to conserve water”.
