Over €5 Million Paid Out To Clare Businesses Under Government Grant

A Clare café owner says long-term solutions to the challenges facing business owners should be prioritised over once-off grants.

New data released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment on foot of a parliamentary question from Clare TD Cathal Crowe shows 1,278 Clare businesses have received €5.1 million through the Power Up grant.

The grant, which is now closed, was introduced in Budget 2025 and offered €4,000 to retail and hospitality businesses who previously availed of the Increased Cost of Business grant.

Siobhain Landy of Sweet’n’Green in Ennis, whose business benefitted from the Power Up grant, says while supports are welcome, the reduction of the hospitality VAT rate to 9% is what businesses are crying out for.
