Close to €170,000 worth of tobacco products have been seized at Shannon Airport in the first half of this year.
As part of ongoing operations targeting the illicit tobacco trade, Revenue officers made 129 seizures at the Clare facility between January 1st and May 31st.
The seizures included cigarettes valued at €146,133 and more than 22 kilograms of tobacco worth €21,039.
Revenue says it uses a range of measures to identify and target illicit manufacturing facilities, as well as the smuggling, supply and sale of illegal tobacco products, with the aim of disrupting supply chains, seizing illicit products and, where possible, prosecuting those involved.
