Number Of Clare Hotels Contracted For Ukrainian Accommodation Down Over 40% In A Year

The number of hotels in Clare contracted to accommodate Ukrainian refugees has almost halved in the last year.

Responding to a parliamentary question from Bodyke Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney, the Department of Justice has confirmed the number of contracts issued to hotels in this county for this purpose dropped from 31 in February 2025 to 18 in the same month this year.

This means 1,569 beds previously assigned to Ukrainian refugees have been freed up here in the last 12 months.

Speaking in the Dáil, Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Colm Brophy says the ultimate aim is to bring all of these beds back into tourist use.
