The National Transport Authority is being called on to change its rules so that rural counties like Clare don’t lose out on vital transport services.
Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes’ comments follow the news this week that the contract for co-ordinating buses to bring those living remotely in Clare to towns has been transferred to Limerick Local Link.
It had been co-ordinated by Clare Bus and that company intends to appeal the decision, while the Transport Minister says he can’t get involved as the NTA decision falls under EU regulations.
Concern has been expressed that the decision could damage, or even threaten the future of the service, and Councillor Hayes says things need to change:
