A record nine Clare beaches have been awarded the prestigious Blue flags.

Beaches at Whitestrand, Miltown Malbay, and in Spanish Point have regained their flags, while they have also been retained at Ballycuggernan, Whitestrand Doonbeg, Mountshannon, Cappa, Fanore, Kilkee and Lahinch.
Meanwhile, green coast awards have been given to Ballyvaughan and Quilty, marking them as exceptional places to visit, even if they don't have the necessary built infrastructure required to meet the criteria for Blue Flag status.
Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillary says its a hugely important vote of confidence in Clare's beaches.
