A new approach which would enable communities in parts of Clare to tackle ongoing issues with rural depopulation has been launched today.
The idea is the brainchild of Rural Resettlement Ireland founder Jim Connolly and has been welcomed positively by the Department of Housing.
Jim Connolly's idea for Rural Regeneration involves the creation of task forces made up of members of the community and local organisations.
It would enable rural communities to examine their own strengths and weaknesses before accessing Government resources for their area.
The initiative is being launched by the Kilbaha-based founder of Rural Resettlement Ireland who believes action needs to be taken from the ground up.
Clare's Independent TD has welcomed the initiative, saying it's come at hugely important time for the country, particularly in light of the housing crisis.
Dr Michael Harty, who largely based his election campaign on the regeneratino of rural areas, says this new concept it opens the doors for communities to tap into their own potential.
