Mounting Pressure On Clare Homeless Services As Presentations Continue To Rise

The number of people presenting to Clare’s Homeless Action Team is continuing to climb, putting further pressure on emergency accommodation.

New Clare County Council figures show there were 96 adults and 71 dependents in emergency accommodation in this county at the end of August.

The Homeless Action Team says it is continuing to seek additional emergency accommodation as demand remains high, with presentations, including complex cases, continuing to rise.

It says it is working with service providers, local supports and other stakeholders to take a collaborative approach to tackling homelessness.

A total of 31 adults exited homelessness during August, including two who moved into Approved Housing Body accommodation and five into temporary accommodation.

A further 23 adults moved on through other routes, including the Winter 9-to-9 bed initiative.

The Homeless Action Team is currently preparing a new Mid West Homeless Action Plan for 2026 to 2028 with Limerick City and County Council.

The local authority says prevention work also continues, although there were no prevention tenancies recorded in Clare during August.
