Clare has recorded a greater than 50% increase in the number of theft incidents in the last year.
New Central Statistics Office data shows theft and related offences were by far the most prevalent in the county during the second quarter of the year.
788 incidents of theft were recorded in Clare between the start of April and the end of June this year.
That’s a 56% increase on the 505 offences recorded during the same three-month period in 2025.
Dangerous or negligent acts were the next most prevalent offence recorded, but still saw a 29% decrease compared with 12 months ago.
A dip in the number of speeding offences was also recorded in the second quarter of this year.
431 incidents were recorded in Q2 this year, a 35% decrease from the 668 recorded last year.
320 drug-related offences were recorded in Clare between April and June.
Of these, 160 were controlled drug offences, 107 involved possession of drugs for personal use, and a further 50 involved possession of drugs for sale or supply.
Meanwhile, 75 instances of drivers being caught under the influence of alcohol were recorded.
