Two Co Galway women have appeared in court over them allegedly shouting anti-war slogans and wearing anti-war T-shirts on the 7th green at Trump Doonbeg golf course as US President, Donald Trump’s Marine One was in the air preparing to land on Saturday afternoon.
At a special sitting of Ennis District Court on Saturday night, two prominent Pro-Palestinian activists, Emma O’Grady (41) of Inis Oírr, Co na Gaillaimhe and Áine Ní Threinír (35) of Cuirt Na Tra, Salthill, Co Galway appeared in connection with the alleged public order offence on Saturday afternoon at Trump Doonbeg golf course during the third day of the resort hosting the Amgen Irish Open.
Arising from the incident on the 7th green, theatre artist, Ms O’Grady and community worker, Ms Ní Threinír are both charged under Section 6 of the (Criminal Justice) Public Order Act where it is an offence for any person in a public place to use or engage in any threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
In court, Judge Adrian Harris granted legal aid to solicitor, Daragh Hassett to represent Ms O’Grady and Ms Ní Threinír.
There was no Garda objection to bail and Judge Harris remanded the two on bail to appear at Kilrush District Court on October 20th.
Judge Harris granted bail on the agreed bail condition that the two stay away from Trump Doonbeg golf resort and must be of good behaviour.
For the court hearing, there was a large presence of Gardai at Ennis Courthouse on Saturday night with a small group of protesters and supporters of the accused locked outside the closed gates of the Ennis Courthouse site.
Speaking after the brief court hearing outside the gates of the courthouse on Saturday night, Emma O’Grady said: “At 3.05pm we were arrested by Gardai on the 7th green just as Trump’s helicopters were in the air landing.”
Footage of the incident on social media showed Gardaí removing the two from the 7th green in front of a grand-stand of Irish Open spectators.
Ms O’Grady said: “We were engaging in a peaceful protest displaying ‘US warplanes out of Shannon’ on our t-shirts and saying that ‘Trump is unwelcome’, calling for a Free Palestine and calling for the US military out of Shannon.”
Ms O’Grady said: “We wanted to highlight that we want the US military out of Shannon and the Irish Government is spending €20m on security for a private trip this weekend. It is just wrong.”
She said: “We don’t want Trump here and to show Trump that he is not welcome here.”
Ms Ní Threinír said: “In these moments people have to do what they can to say that ‘this isn’t okay’.”

A major policing operation continues in the county today as US President Donald Trump remains in Doonbeg for the final day of the Amgen Irish Open
It comes as three people appeared at a special sitting of Ennis District Court after being arrested for offences at the West Clare golf course.
Shannon Airport:
Normal operations will continue at Shannon Airport.
Additional security checks and Garda presence will be deployed within the environs of Shannon Airport. NO on street parking is allowed anywhere within the Shannon Airport environs except in designated areas.
Passengers travelling to the airport are advised to allow extra travel time on Sunday 13th September 2026.
All visitors to the airport during the period are advised to have photo ID, and intending passengers should have photo ID and valid flight documentation available.
An Garda Síochána is engaging with a number of protest groups who have indicated that they may gather over the duration of this visit. Peaceful protest will be facilitated and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community and patrons of Shannon Airport and Town.
Other potential protest activity being promoted online has not engaged with An Garda Síochána.
It is anticipated that a public gathering and protest activity will take place at the entrance to the Shannon Airport and An Garda Síochána will advise members of the public and patrons of the airport further if/ when further information is available.
Shannon Town:
Shannon Town remains open for business.
An Garda Síochána policing and security operation should not impact significantly on Shannon Town subject to any protest activity which might expand into the environs of Shannon Town.
Doonbeg:
Access to the environs of Doonbeg village, Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Doonbeg and the wider west Clare environs will be restricted.
Access and traffic along the N67, between Clonadrum Cross (north) and Doonbeg (south) will continue to be restricted tomorrow Sunday 13th September.
Access for local residents inside the N67 diversion route will be maintained. Local residents have been issued with passes and are further advised to carry photo identifications and proof of address to assist with security checks where required.

Other potential protest activity being promoted online has not engaged with An Garda Síochána.
A designated protest location has been identified at Doonbeg village.
Other Routes:
The public can expect temporary rolling road closures, to facilitate security escorts over the course of the 11th, 12th and 13th September 2026 on routes between Shannon and West Clare/ Doonbeg including:
• M18, N18, N19, N85, N68, N67 also through Ennis and the environs of Limerick City
Drone Restrictions:
UAS Geographical Zones and/ or TRA (Temporary Restricted Airspace) flight restriction notifications will be in place at venues during this visit. This includes restrictions on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) i.e. drones.
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) issues these restrictions, some of which can be issued at short notice for operational reasons. UAS (drone) pilots should check the IAA website for restrictions on flying drones in UAS Geographical Zones and TRAs immediately before operating a UAS.
UAS detection systems will be in place to identify the location of drones that are flying in restricted areas as well as the drone pilot. Breaches of TRAs and Geographical Zones are subject to investigation by An Garda Síochána and the IAA.

Maritime Restrictions:
A temporary maritime exclusion zone and associated outer control area will be in operation in the waters off Co. Clare.
This marine notice is issued solely to advise mariners of navigational restrictions arising from that temporary maritime exclusion zone and associated outer control area.
Marine notices are issued for maritime safety and navigation reasons.
