Almost 25 years after building its Shannon store, the German supermarket giant has declared its intention to significantly expand its presence at the location.

Lidl ireland is proposing to demolish its existing store which has a gross floor area of 1,237 square metres, in order to build a new store of roughly 2,560 square metres.

In addition to retail and off-licence space, the new building would encompass an internal plant room, an ESB substation, a switch room, storage rooms, a chiller room and rooms for staff.

The plans tabled by Lidl Ireland state that alterations would be carried out to the car parking layout to provide 145 spaces, including five disabled spaces, 10 child and parent spaces, two EV charging spaces and 36 bicycle spaces.

It’s also noted that the new building would feature roof-mounted solar PV panels, two flagpole-mounted signs, five wall-mounted building signs, a poster display board and three billboard signs.

The planning application states that the site would be accessed via the two existing junctions at Bóthar na Rinne and Bóthar an Aerfoirt during construction.

A decision is due to be made on the development by January 17th of next year while submissions must be received by Clare County Council by December 18th.
