It’s been just over a month since the local authority rejected Lidl’s plans to build a store near Deerpark West on the Lahinch Road.

It did so on the grounds that it would seriously impact the vibrancy and vitality of Ennistymon Town Centre, due to its location, the council also cited deficiencies in the local road network, particularly at Blake’s Corner.

Most notably though, the council said it was precluded from granting planning permission due to issues at Ennistymon’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Lidl has challenged these findings however and a submission from MKO Consultants, states that the development would provide additional choice and competition and will bring footfall to the pubs, restaurants and tourism-related retail outlets in Ennistymon town.

Lidl has also proposed to a build an on-site wastewater treatment plant to prevent complications on Uisce Éireann’s network.

Lidl has estimated that if given the go ahead, the proposed store could generate revenues of over €10.4m
