The IBAL report has deemed the county town as the second tidiest in the country according to its latest ranking.

Up 11 spots from December last year, Ennis now ranks only behind Naas in County Kildare for cleanliness in Ireland

It means Ennis, a former winner of the IBAL litter league, is now regarded as ‘cleaner than European norms’ along with eight other towns nationwide.

According to the An Taisce Report, Ennis only narrowly missed out on top spot, with nine of the assessed areas receiving an A grade, up from five when last assessed in December.

The report details that the public realm works carried out on O’Connell Street and Henry Street have resulted in ‘lovely streetscapes on both streets’.

While significant improvement was also noted in the Dunnes Stores Car Park, which has been granted the top grade having previously ranked as the least tidy area of the town at the end of last year.
