An investigation has been launched into an incident of fraud at a restaurant in North Clare.
It’s understood a group entered a venue in Lahinch last Tuesday and when it was time to pay, one of the party alleged there had been nuts in the meal, which he was allergic too.
An argument subsequently ensued with the proprietor and the group left without paying.
Sergeant Edel Burke from Clare’s Crime Prevention Office has this advice
“This type of fraud inflicts severe financial damage and emotional stress on restaurant staff and business owners. For restaurant owners they could perhaps implement Table side payment, handing over the bill and processing the transactions at the table, hold credit cards: especially for large bookings, upgrade security systems especially CCTV and switch service models: use counter service whereby the customers pay before eating eliminates the risk entirely.”
