An investigation is underway after an extremely rare species of whale washed up in North Clare.
On Sunday, a Gervais Beaked Whale, which was pregnant with a calf at the time was discovered at Kilmacreehy Beach in Liscannor.

Although the deep water species is well known to the North Atlantic, it’s usually sighted of the East Coast of the United States.
Strandings Officer with the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group Stephanie Levesque says they’re working to confirm the cause of the incident.
