The Health and Safety Authority has reported a significant drop in the number of workplace accidents in Clare last year.
There was a drop of over 20 in the number of people hurt in such incidents, although the number of non-workers affected did climb.
Clare Fm’s James Mulhall reports:
119 people were injured in workplace accidents in Clare last year.
The Health and Safety Authority’s 2016 reports shows this is down by nearly 20%, and is the lowest figure recorded since 2008, the earliest date for which such records are available.
Of these people, however, 15 of those hurt were non-workers, a number that was higher than in both of the previous two years combined.
There’s no county-by-county breakdown of the number of fatal accidents.
Instead, this is done on a regional basis and the figure of 5 for the MidWest marks a reduction of two.
Agriculture accounted for 21 of the 46 fatal accidents in Irish workplaces last year, with nearly half of those killed aged 55 and over.
