Hopes Lower Speed Limit Could Boost Business In Clare’s Urban Areas

It’s hoped the introduction of a 30 kilometre-per-hour speed limit in built-up and urban areas will benefit businesses in towns and villages across Clare.

Work is underway on Phase 2 of the National Speed Limit Review, with mapping of the proposed limits now being prepared ahead of workshops with local authority elected members later this year, following consultation with the Gardaí.

The lower speed limit is intended for town centres where there’s significant interaction with vulnerable road users, as well as higher levels of economic activity and footfall.

If adopted, the byelaws will come into force in March next year, and Ardnacrusha Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan, who’s a member of the council’s Road Safety Working Group, believes the new limits will be broadly welcomed.
