A Clare insurer says guidelines issued for the settlement of small claims through the injuries board are having a significant impact on the number of spurious claims.
Following the introduction of the guidelines this time last year, the average award handed down by the Personal Injuries Assessment Board dropped by 42%, leading to criticism of insurance companies for failing to reduce premiums.
The acceptance rate for PIAB awards fell from 51% in 2020 to 37% last year however, largely due to claimants deciding to take their case to court for a better outcome.
CEO of Munster Group in Ennis, Padraic McNicholas says there is a risk in bringing the case to court.
