Shortly before 2.30pm last Tuesday, a man in his 50s was approached by another man in the Cronan Grove area of Shannon and asked for money.

It’s understood that when he refused, he was assaulted.

Emergency services were alerted and the injured party was treated for a facial injury.

Gardaí in Shannon are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 061 365 900.

Separately, Gardaí in Ennis are investigating a separate incident which occurred at around 3pm last Wednesday at Ballyalla Lake, outside Ennis.

A man in his 40s was fishing close to the bridge near Drumcliffe when two young boys reportedly threw a stone from the bridge.

The man suffered an injury and his fishing rod was damaged.

Gardaí are urging anyone who may have seen the boys in the area to come forward.

They’re also reminding parents to ensure they know where their children are and what they are doing during the summer holidays, describing the incident as a nasty experience for the fisherman.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 68 48 100.
