An Environmental Scientist has warned that Uisce Éireann’s Lough Derg extraction plans will make it more difficult to protect the lake’s ecology.
It comes as the Sustainable Water Network has carried out an analysis on the effects worsening water quality, rising temperatures, drought and falling water levels would have on dependent communities and businesses.

Uisce Éireann is currently progressing plans to extract 300 milliion litres of the River Shannon’s daily water flow to pump in a 171km pipeline to the Greater Dublin and Midlands area.
SWAN member Puneeta Sreenivas says more safeguards are needed.
