The incident occurred at around 5.30pm on the R461 Feakle Road out of Scarriff just a hundred metres from the centre of the town.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from nearby Scarriff station responded to the incident along with Gardaí.

On arrival, fire crews found that a retaining wall at the rear of a building had collapsed with some debris falling onto a nearby house causing some damage. A shed on neighbouring land was also damaged. Nobody was injured in the incident however.

The scene has been cordoned off while the road closed for a short time while council crews erected protective fencing around the site.

A further assessment of the area is expected to take place tomorrow morning before a clean-up operation commences.
