18:04 p.m. – The Latest update in across the European Tally,

2:42 p.m. – While this is the latest in Kilrush.
2:40 p.m. – In Killaloe, unsurprisingly, Councillor Joe Cooney is on course to top the poll once more. His Fine Gael running mates, in particular Whitegate’s Pat Burke, will be hoping that his surplus can lift their totals.
1:53 p.m. – Our first tallies are now available for the Kilrush area. Nearly 40% of boxes are opened.
1:49 p.m. – Nearly half of the Killaloe area boxes have now been tallied.
1:44 p.m. – COMPLETE Tally for Ennis. A very close race is building up for the final two seats it seems.
12:38 p.m. – COMPLETE TALLY. Votes from the Ennistymon area have all now been tallied.
12:20 p.m. – And this is how the people of Clare have voted in the European elections, so far.

12:08 p.m. – The latest in the Ennis area. The unopened boxes are all in polling stations located within the town.
11:46 a.m. – A short time ago, this was the state of play as regards party share. The figures, remember, are only tallies and will evolve greatly throughout the day.
11:30 a.m. – Overall levels of turnout are expected to be around 55%, but we’ve yet to get exact figures.
11:25 a.m. – 21 of 41 boxes have now been tallied in Ennis
Paul Murphy, FG 938
Clare Colleran Molloy, FF 650
Mary Howard, FG 608

Mark Nestor, FF 539
Pat Daly, FF 528
Ann Norton, IND 419
Frank Cullinan, IND 401
Dermot Hayes, IND 329
Alfonso D’Auria, IND 318
Seamus Ryan, Lab 199
Donna-Deirdre McGettigan, SF 156
Amanda Major, IND 84
Chris Kirwan, SD 55
Anderw Hakizimana, IND 36
11:19 a.m. – 14 of 30 boxes have now been tallied in the Ennistymon area:

Martin O’Loghlen, FF 342

10:26 a.m. – One difference this year is that there are no loud thudding noises when the ballot boxes are opened. Here in Clare, the old metal boxes have been replaced with larger plastic versions.
For this count, the counters’ tables have also been lengthened to deal with the European election ballot paper, some 2ft long.
10:21 a.m. – Six of 30 boxes have now been tallied in the Ennistymon area, namely Boston, Cloonanaga, Clooney, Furglann, Toonagh and Tubber.
Shane Talty, FF 363
Roisin Garvey, Greens 210
Joe Killeen, FF 159
Bill Slattery, FG 144
Martin O’Loghlen, FF 99
Noeleen Moran, SF 92
Joe Garrihy, FG 57
10:10 a.m. – With 5 boxes tallied in the Ennis area, so far, the situation stands as follows:
Pat Daly, FF 154
Clare Colleran Molloy, FF 134

Donna Deirdre McGettigan, SF 21
Chris Kirwan, SD 17
Amanda Major, IND 12
The boxes tallied are the postal votes, Toonagh NS, Inch NS, Holy Family NS Box 3, and Doora N.S. Box 2
9:57 a.m. – Our first on air update is coming shortly.
9:33 a.m. – The tallying proccess is well underway, but is expected to last for several hours. The first indications coming through are for the Ennis and Ennistymon areas, and we understand that the boxes for those areas will be opened first, before moving onto Killaloe, Kilrush and Shannon. Therefore, it could be late morning or even into the afternoon before the first tallies for those areas become available.
9:25 a.m. – The same exit poll predicted Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael will be neck-to-neck on 23% support in the local elections. Sinn Féin’s support is measured at 12%, and the Greens have also fared well here at 9%. Labour are on 6%, Social Democrats on 3% and Independents are on 15%. The remaining support are for parties or groupings that are not fielding candidates in Clare.
The margin of error here is +/- 3%, and in a local elections where local, rather than national issues, are likely to have dominated in the minds of many voters, the result in Clare are likely to be very different when all 28 Councillors are elected.
9:18 a.m. – Last night saw the publication of an RTÉ/TG4 Exit Poll that has predicted a very strong election performance for the Green Party. Their candidate Ciaran Cuffe is on course to top the poll in Dublin, and both Grace O’Sullivan and Saoirse McHugh are in with strong chances of winning seats in their respective constituencies too.
In Ireland South, where the people of Clare voted, the constituency the poll (carried out by Red C) suggests the following results.
Sean Kelly, FG 16%
Liadh Ní Riada, SF 13%
Billy Kelleher, FF 13%
Grace O’Sullivan, Greens 12%
Mick Wallace, I4C 10%
Malcolm Byrne, FF 9%
Deirdre Clune, FG 9%
Andrew Doyle, FG 4%
Sheila Nunan, Lab 3%
The margin of error is +/- 4%.
