A Kilrush native accused of being involved in an IRA bombing which killed four British soldiers is facing a civil action taken by their families.
Four years ago, John Downey was charged with the murders of the four men who lost their lives in the 1982 Hyde Park Bombing.

However, the case against him later collapsed after it emerged that UK government officials had mistakenly told him that he was no longer a wanted man.
The UK’s Sun newspaper now reports that the county’s Legal Aid Agency has agreed to fund the civil action against Downey, despite previously refusing to do so.
