It’s claimed domestic violence is a problem in every village in West Clare.
It comes ahead of an event highlighting the supports available to women affected by abuse of this nature.
Next week, the Clare Local Area Network, or Clan, is hosting an afternoon aimed at raising awareness of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse, as well as how those experiencing it can seek help.
The event will take place in the West Clare Family Resource Centre on Wednesday April 29th from 12:30 to 2pm.
Information on supports will be provided throughout while in a separate room, attendees can avail of a free makeup and skincare demonstration.
Cooraclare nurse, Safer Clare campaign chairperson, Local Community Safety Partnership member, and new CLAN member, June Dillon, says the problem is in every community.
In 2023, Clare leading women’s protection service, Clare Haven, took 1,133 calls while providing refuge to 85 women and 126 children.
Coordinator of Women’s Collective Ireland, Cecilia Brizuela, says everyone is entitled to information which could save their life.
