Dáil Hears One Garda Responsible For Policing Whole Of West Clare

The Dáil has heard that a single Garda was responsible for policing the entirety of West Clare for an evening lately.

In a debate on policing and community safety, Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe has raised the issue of the merging of Clare and Tipperary’s Garda divisions and the effect this has had on this county.

Recent Department of Justice figures show there are just 288 Gardaí stationed in Clare which is the lowest number in eleven years.

Deputy Crowe claims the reconfiguration of Garda resources has hindered Clare more than it’s helped.
