Crowe Insists There’s Another Day’s Fighting Over Mungret Plant

A South East Clare Councillor insists there’s another day’s fighting to be had over controversial changes at a cement plant near the Clare border.

Irish Cement’s fossil fuel replacement programme in its Mungret factory has been allowed to proceed after an An Bord Pleanála appeal.

It means the plant will begin to burn alternative fuels – something that has caused serious concern about the environmental impact, with Clare County Council appealing to the EPA after the initial go-ahead was given a year ago.

Fianna Fáil’s Cathal Crowe is from nearby Meelick and insists the fight to prevent the move is not over yet.
