Council Secures 3,000 Tonnes Of Salt For County’s Roads

Clare County Council admits it may need increased stocks of salt, despite securing 3,000 tonnes for the winter ahead.

After the coldest nights of this winter so far made us all shiver this week, along the first road treatment operations of the season, the local authority has announced that it already has 1,000 tonnes of rock salt on hand.

An additional 2,000 tonnes of salt is available to the Council to draw down when required from the National Roads Authority and the Department of Transport, but the Council says more could be required if Clare is hit with another freezing winter, such as in 2009/10.
