Council Alters Proposal For Iconic Ennis Building To Enhance Friary Offering

A proposal for an iconic Ennis building has been altered to enhance the offering of one of the town’s most distinctive visitor attractions.

Clare County Council has revealed it’s submitting a new planning application for a redevelopment of the Cloister consisting of a dedicated visitor experience based on the Ennis Friary.

The previous plans provided for a change of use from a bar and restaurant to artist studios, workshop and classroom space, a café and a mixed-use exhibition or event space.

Director of Service of Clare County Council’s Tourism, Recreation, Libraries and Cultural Services Directorate, Siobhan McNulty, believes it would’ve been a “missed opportunity” if the friary was ignored.
