Quarter Of All Clare COVID Cases Confirmed In Past Week Alone

Clare has recorded a quarter of all its cases since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the last seven days alone.

595 cases of the virus have been confirmed in this county in the last week, with the number of people who have tested positive here since the onset of the disease last February standing at 2,371.

Clare’s incidence rate of the virus per 100,000 people now stands at 681.7, after a further 147 cases were confirmed here yesterday evening.

There have been 810 confirmed cases of the virus in this county in the past 14 days – a third of the total recorded in Clare in the entirety of the pandemic.

Across the country, there are now 954 people in hospital with the virus and 7,836 cases were confirmed yesterday – with both figures the highest since the pandemic began.

The chief medical officer, Tony Holohan, says the country is likely to see an increasing number of deaths and ICU admissions in the coming days and weeks.
