Concern has been raised over persistent flooding issues in a residential area of Shannon.
A resident in the Caragh Park area says almost a foot of water has gathered at the gable end of their home, following recent adverse weather conditions and claims the issue has been ongoing for several years.
Clare County Council says it has received a complaint relating to this area and that it believes the intensification of rainfall in recent years onto systems that were not designed to cope with these levels of rain is a contributary factor.
The local authority appointed a specialist contractor to carry out extensive unblocking in the Shannon Municipal District last November to maximise existing capacity in the stormwater networks.
Btu local resident Michelle Marley has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that it’s still a problem and she’s concerned flooding issues may have serious consequences, particularly for chidren and the elderly.
