A Clare zoology student has developed a project to improve the welfare of captive animals.
Ellie Cullinan from Crusheen studied the behaviour of two male boars at the Burren nature Sanctuary and designed activities for the enrichment of their lives.

Her findings showed the tasks resulted in a reduction in repetitive pacing and increased opportunities for natural behaviours such as foraging and exploration.
Ellie says simple steps can improve the everyday lives of animals in confined spaces.
