It’s being argued that Clare should look to other parts of Ireland to identify a roadmap for the implementation of community CCTV surveillance.
Newmarket-on-Fergus Fianna Fáil Councillor David Griffin is the latest local elected representative to call for the rollout of CCTV in public areas to combat anti-social behaviour and criminality.
The final code of practice for the operating of such a scheme has yet to be put forward by the Garda Commissioner.
Councillor Griffin says other counties have found ways to bring CCTV into use without waiting for the publication of a code of practice.
