The French prime minister says more targeted curfews may be imposed where necessary to protect public peace.

Sebastien Lecornu says the measures helped maintain calm in parts of Paris and other cities overnight, avoiding a repeat of the rioting and looting seen over the weekend.

More than 2-thousand people were arrested after protests over the co of living spiralled into violence.

Quin native Grace Hennessey is a University of Limerick student spending the year on Erasmus at Audencia Business School in Nantes.

She’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that the scenes unfolding around her have been unlike anything she has experienced before.

Lecornu has blamed the “ultra-left” for the unrest, while US President Donald Trump has also blamed immigration.

But Grace says her own observations have led her to question whether those taking part in the protests were responsible for the violence.
