Clare Has Seventh Highest Incidence Of Covid In Country

Clare has the seventh-highest incidence of Covid-19 in the country.

Despite declining case numbers, the banner county continues to record a higher than average number of PCR tests.

In the two weeks to Tuesday, 281 new PCR confirmed cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Clare.

On Tuesday alone, 20 new cases were reported in the county – making up over 2.5% of the total number of cases across the country.

The 14 day incidence rate of the virus in the county per 100,000 of the population currently stands at 236.5 – the seventh highest in the country.

Four out of Clare’s five electoral areas had an incidence rate higher than the national average – with only East Clare coming in below average.

Ennis recorded the most cases, with 89 positive results.

This was followed closely by the 66 cases in Shannon and 65 in West Clare.

East and North Clare recorded lower case numbers at 42 and 41 respectively.

This brings the total case number recorded in Clare throughout the entirity of the pandemic to 39,215 – over a third of Clare’s population.

These latest figures only include PCR confirmed cases of Covid-19 and don’t include those who register online with a positive antigen test.
