A new link is set to be forged between Clare and a province in China.
Councillors are expected to vote in favour of establishing a formal friendship relationship with the country's Yunnan province
In 2012 Fine Gael's John Crowe proposed that Clare County council look to set up a twinning arrangement between the Shannon Region and China.
The motion followed the visit of China's then Vice President Xi Jinping to Ireland.
Cllr Crowe hoped the arrangement if successful would foster a development of closer Industrial Farming Tourism and Cultural ties between the countries.
Correspondence between the local authority and the Chinese Embassy has continued since then, and an invitation issued for a delegation to visit the Yunnan Province in June of last year.
However that clashed with the local elections.
The invitation has now been re-issued for April of this year and Councillors are expected to accept it at their meeting later today.
