Clare recorded a large spike in housing activity last month.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Housing, the third highest number of commencement notices, since records began, were filed in the county.
Construction began on 128 homes across the county last month.
Both December and April 2024 were the only months where commencement activity was higher, when construction began on 164 and 281 units respectively.
The figure for July is substantially more than both that for June, when 38 commencement notices were lodged, and July 2025, when 35 commencements were recorded.
Of the 128 homes commenced last month, 78 are for scheme homes, 40 are for apartments while the remaining 10 are one-off homes.
Last month’s strong showing means shovels have been in the ground for 373 new homes in Clare in 2026, 187% more than this time last year when the figure was 130.
Of the new homes commenced in Clare in the first seven months of the year, 194 are scheme dwellings, 74 are apartments, and 105 are for one-off units.
