A Clare oil merchant says while carbon tax cuts are welcome, he’s unsure of the long-term impact they will have.
The Dáil has passed a number of tax measures to bring elements of yesterday’s Budget into effect, including lifting the carbon tax on home heating oil and gas for the lifetime of the Government.
Clare currently has the fourth-highest home heating oil prices nationwide, with people in the county paying €1,607 for a 1,000-litre fill.
The changes are estimated to reduce bills by €86 per fill, but Sixmilebridge oil merchant PJ Ryan says the saving could be wiped out by price increases by the end of the month.
