A Clare nursing home has been found not to be fully compliant with premises requirements for the fifth successive inspection.
The Health Information and Quality Authority has ordered the provider of Ennis Nursing Home the address several shortcoming after finding the facility’s bedroom walls to be “stained, heavily marked, chipped and in many cases unsightly”.
HIQA conducted an unannounced inspection of Ennis Nursing Home, which is located on Showgrounds Road in Drumbiggle and operated by Mowlam Healthcare Services, on May 1st of this year.
On the day in question, the facility was at full capacity, with 60 residents present.
The inspection report states that overall, residents were happy in the centre and had a “high level of praise for the staff as individuals and as a group”.
Four previous inspections had found Ennis Nursing Home to be either not compliant or just substantially compliant in the area of ‘premises’ and on this occasion, the centre was once again found not to be compliant in this respect.
Inspectors noted the premises wasn’t in a “good state of repair” with paint work in bedrooms “chipped and heavily marked”, while some residents didn’t have “adequate space to occupy a bed, a chair and personal storage space”.
Furthermore, non-compliance was found in the area of ‘governance and management’ as the provider had previously committed to ensuring the premises issues found in previous inspections would be addressed but had failed to follow through on this commitment.
Outling how the problems will be tackled, Mowlam Healthare Services claims there is a “phased programme of works in place to continue the refurbishment plan that commenced after the last inspection”.
It also says a “Quality Improvement Plan with achievable timelines has been developed to continue to address identified deficits”.
