Clare Independent TD Relying On “People’s Better Nature” To Prevent Unauthorised Weddings At Corcomroe Abbey

A Clare Independent TD is relying on “people’s better nature” to ensure unauthorised weddings don’t take place at Corcomroe Abbey.

The 13th century abbey, which is north of Bell Harbour in the Burren, has become a popular site for humanist weddings and civil ceremonies, but recent damage to grave slabs has led to such ceremonies being prohibited.

In a written Dáil response to Scariff TD Michael McNamara, Minister for State Patrick O’Donovan confirmed signage has been erected at the site as “a last resort” to deter such events.
