Clare Gardaí Call For Review Of Suspension Policy

Clare Gardaí are calling for an independent review of every garda currently under suspension.

The GRA’s annual conference has heard calls for an examination of the current suspension policy, action against threats to gardaí, the introduction of medics for public order incidents, and the issuing of a separate working driver’s licence for on-duty members.

A total of 96 suspensions are currently in effect, 27% of which are for domestic violence, sexual crime and coercive control while 20 are for drunk driving and eight are for corruption or organised crime.

Clare GRA representative Garda Paul Crowley says in light of recent high-profile cases, the policy should be looked at.
