Clare Gardaí Appeal To Holiday Home Owners To Protect Vacant Properties From Theft

Clare Gardaí are urging members of the public with both holiday homes and mobile homes to ensure their properties are secured while unoccupied.

Last year, over 5,000 such dwellings in this county were classed as vacant and owners are now being advised to take precautionary measures to prevent thefts and break-ins.

The safety tips include informing Gardaí in advance if the premises is to be vacant for a long period to receive attention from patrols, to keep the property maintained by cutting the grass and trimming hedges and to install deadbolt locks.

Garda Eimear McDonagh from Clare’s Community Policing Unit says maintaining a visible presence is vital.
