It comes as a weather advisory is now in place across the country until Tuesday next week.

Met Éireann says it’s looking increasingly likely the country will experience a heatwave over the coming week, as an advisory for a prolonged spell of very warm or hot weather kicks in.

The national forecaster says the high temperatures will last until next week, with daytime temperatures widely topping 25 degrees and that weather warnings are likely to be issued by the weekend.

While temperatures in Clare are expected to remain in the low twenties over the coming days, the mercury could climb into the high twenties, or even the low thirties, by Sunday.

Tullycrine-based Met Éireann forecaster, Michelle Dillon says people should be prepared for some very warm weather over the coming week.

With seaside and lakeside towns and villages expected to see a surge in visitors, Clare County Council is urging people visiting the county’s waterways to take extra care.

There are 12 designated bathing areas across Clare that are lifeguarded between 11am and 7pm.

Water Safety Development Officer Maebh Collins is encouraging people to swim only at lifeguarded locations.
