Clare Driving Test Pass Rate Far Higher Than Average So Far In 2021

The pass rate for those taking the driving tests in Clare is far higher than average in the first three months of 2021.

More than 800 people sat their tests at one of the county’s three centres in the first quarter of this year.

Of the 421 men and 402 women who’ve booked driving tests in either the Ennis, Kilrush or Shannon centres up to the beginning of April, more than two thirds have passed it.

It’s significantly higher than 2020’s pass rates here, when 61 percent of men and 53 percent of women earned the right to remove their L plates.

2019’s pass rates across Clare’s three test centres were even lower, at 60 percent for males and 50 percent for females.

The average waiting time for a test in Clare had also dropped by two thirds before the COVID-19 pandemic hit according to a Freedom of Information request to the Road Safety Authority.

People in Ennis were waiting around 14 weeks for a test at the end of 2016, while this had dropped to 5 weeks by the end of 2019.

Shannon’s average wait time had dropped from 15 to 5 weeks, though Kilrush saw an increase in waits from 3 to 7 weeks.

Figures were not available for test waiting times past March of 2020 upon the onset of COVID, but it appears likely the backlog of tests here since then mean waiting times have significantly increased in the past year.
