A delegation from Clare is among thousands of protestors who have gathered outside the Dáil this lunchtime, to highlight the depth of the country’s housing and homeless crisis.
The ‘Raise the Roof’ rally is organised by a coalition of groups and parties, including the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Sinn Féin and The Union of Students in Ireland, who are calling for radical change in the Government’s housing policies.
Clare Sinn Féin believes the Government, facilitated by Fianna Fáil, has failed to tackle the growing housing crisis, saying much of their actions and inactions have made the crisis worse.
West Clare Representative Violet-Anne Wynne, who has herself experienced homelessness is among those demonstrating in Dublin today.
She’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill, that without real investment in public housing, she believes homelessness and the crisis in the rental sector will spiral out of control.
