Clare County Council Defends Route For Limerick Northern Distributor Road

Clare County Council has defended the chosen route for the controversial Limerick Northern Distributor Road.

Speaking at a meeting on the issue last evening, Council engineer Tom Tiernan said the process to select the route was detailed and methodical, and that while it didn’t satisfy everyone, he was confident that if the process was repeated, then the same route would be chosen again.

Local residents and some Councilors want the Council’s approved route to be re-drawn amid concerns that it will travel through flood plains and dissect the village of Parteen.

And while the issue will be discussed again in June, after Limerick Councillors make a decision on their portion of the route, Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe isn’t confident that the campaign here will be a success.
